Created in 2024, R.M.S. is family owned and operated and was born from the minds of experienced well seasoned captains and crew from the sportfishing and yachting industry. Working together in the industry for so long, we not only consider each other friends but more like family. It would only make sense to create a company that keeps us working together, doing what we love. Taking the knowledge and experience we have accumulated over the decades and making it available to help boaters get more use out of their investments.
That is what R.M.S. is about
With 25+ years in the sportfishing industry, Captain Ping has held a USCG 100 Ton Masters License for near 20 years. Captain Ping started out working on the local 1/2 day, 3/4 boats and moving up to overnights and multi days soon after. Captain Ping even spent a few years on the San Diego long range fleet before returning to San Diego to captain a whale watching boat. Eventually he would buy the charter boat "ALICIA" and operate that for 8 years. Having learned from many of San Diego's legendary captains, Captain Ping has gained a vast amount of knowledge of different types of fisheries along the west coast of California and Mexico. Captain Ping is regarded as one of San Diego's most well rounded and knowledgeable captains.
Mrs, Haylee Liu grew up fishing for pelagics in our local waters on her fathers boat, it was inevitable she would find a job and a husband at the sportfishing landings. Haylee spent time learning the ropes working on charter boat "Alicia". Eventually moving to a yacht brokerage where she learned about a different side of boating. Now playing a vital administrative role in our business. One thing is for sure, Haylee loves being near the waters edge.
Captain Dylan may be young but is knowledgeable beyond his years. A San Diego native, Captain Dylan started as a young pinhead among the sportfishing fleet where he spent many of hours, days, and years scrubbing decks, tying knots, checking drags, filleting fish, etc. Absorbing all the information available to him, it wouldn't be long before Dylan would get his USCG captain's license. His love for fishing would lead him to begin a 4 pack charter business with his own boat. This is where he would build his reputation as one of the best captains in the fleet. You can find Captain Dylan now at the helm of "REEL BROKE" and "TORERO" and he's ready to take you fishing!
Captain Casey Johnson, Owner/Operator of "REEL ZEN", hails from Valley Center, CA. But that doesn't stop his love for the ocean. He attributes his passion for fishing to his "Pops". Growing up fishing on their family boat and taking trips on some of San Diego's long range boats with his Pops. Captain Casey eventually found his way into positions on some of the sportfishing fleet's finest boats. Working his way up to a USCG captains license he would be called upon to use his knowledge to operate a 22' 4 pack charter boat. After a year at the helm, Captain Casey soon realized he enjoyed a more personal experience for his guests. So he proudly offers 4 pack charters aboard his beautiful and well equipped "REEL ZEN".
Captain Kevin Cheeseman, owner/operator of the "ALICIA", is a craftsman by trade, focusing mainly on home renovations. But that changed for him recently. Captain Kevin spent a few years on different charter and 6 pack boats before realizing this is his true passion. Captain Kevin love introducing people to the sport he loves. He decided to jump in with both feet and purchased the charter vessel "ALICIA" in July 2024. He is carrying on the long running tradition of quality service aboard the "ALICIA".
Long time friend and crew member to Captain Ping aboard the "ALICIA", is deckhand Tyler Lopresti. He is a San Diego native as well. Growing up in a fishing family it would only be fate for Tyler to follow that path. But before he got a job on a fishing boat Tyler spent many years as a coach at Mt Carmel High School. Even after leaving the high school, Tyler chose to continue his coaching career on the sportfishing boats, shaping the new generation of anglers. Tyler possesses the necessary skills and patience to help novice anglers catch the fish of a lifetime.
Luke Yeargain although relatively new to the sportfishing scene has quickly made a great reputation for himself as an excellent chef. Luke spent many years serving up delicious meals aboard the many of the sportboats in the fleet before he decided he wanted to work on the deck. With a positive can do attitude, a friendly demeanor, a desire to learn, Luke absorbs information well and has quickly become an experienced and knowledgeable deckhand. He loves to please and is always ready to help with a big smile on his face. Luke is on his way to being a captain soon.
